Wild Classroom: Adding Biophilic Elements to Indoor Learning Spaces

As the call to get children in nature becomes louder it seems standardized test scheduling, general fear, health concerns, technology and busy schedules keep them indoors longer. So is it time to bring nature into our buildings? We think so and want to share our nature based interior design ideas with other teachers in our book for teachers and school staff, Wild classroom: Adding Biophilic Elements to Indoor Learning Spaces.This book was born out of two sisters' passion for outdoor and environmental education and the realization that many projects we have created or seen could be adapted to our indoor learning spaces and integrated into disciplines other than agriculture/environmental courses. We are also very concerned about the emotional and social well being of the individuals in today's schools and want to encourage teachers to bring the nature indoors in support of the growing research supporting the benefits of nature on human emotional, social, and cognitive well being.
